Reaume Brothers Racing Launches New Development Program
Reaume Brothers Racing has signed Stephen Mallozzi and Jonathan Cuevas to the organization’s inaugural Driver Development program. Reaume Brothers Racing has a passion for discovering talent and affording young drivers the chance to master their craft. Through the Driver Development program, Mallozzi and Cuevas will have an opportunity to participate in several late model races representing the Reaume Brothers Racing team.
Mallozzi got a late start to the racing scene, as his first start in a go-kart was at the age of nine years old. The Swedesboro, New Jersey native won multiple Northeast Karting Championships and finished on the National Podium three times across a variety of different karts and series. His racing career experienced a brief pause after receiving the news that his father was diagnosed with stage four non-small cell lung cancer and was given six months to live. Mallozzi stepped away from the racing world to be by his father’s side just as his father was there for him on the track, but Stephen’s passion for racing never wavered.
In the spring of 2021, Mallozzi made the significant life decision to pack up and move to Mooresville, North Carolina to chase his dream of becoming a NASCAR driver. Through many networking opportunities, he connected with team owner Josh Reaume, who immediately began to help the 20-year-old find his way.
“It’s a dream come true,” says Mallozzi. “I went from retired with no prospect of returning to racing, and now, I’m running with some of the best stock car drivers in the country for one of the hardest working, best teams out there. Without Josh and the guys at RBR, my career would be over”.
Meanwhile, Cuevas has been an RBR employee for almost four years. As one of the foundational pieces of the race team, Cuevas has done it all. He even had a very successful run at RBR’s Winter Test session this past year. After doing everything ranging from interiors on the trucks to vinyl wrapping, Cuevas can now add ‘Driver’ to his list of roles with the team.
Jonathan has earned everything he has; nothing has been given to him. His parents could not afford to take him racing, so Jonathan never received the opportunity to showcase his talent. Cuevas elected to attend a trade school in Phoenix, Arizona as a teenager in an attempt to work himself into the sport. After graduating, he packed his bags and took a leap of faith by moving to North Carolina.
“I had nothing” says Cuevas. “It was literally just me, my rundown sedan, and all the clothes I could fit in the backseat. I never thought I would make it this far. Having this opportunity is unreal.”
Owner Josh Reaume feels very strongly about giving back to the racing community, and is now in a position to provide opportunities to drivers who would otherwise struggle to find them.
“I feel it’s my duty to pay it forward in the same way others did for me. At the same time I believe there is a void in Motorsports as a whole currently. Teams need to step up and begin to search and development talent without the number one priority being that of funding” says Reaume. “Both Jonathan and Stephen bring an abundance of positive energy and passion to this team and I’m thrilled to have them on board”.
Current plans include both drivers participating in the Carolina Pro Series. Mallozzi will compete in the RBR Driver Development Program’s inaugural race this Saturday, July 17th at Florence Motor Speedway. He will run numerous local NASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Weekly Series events. Cuevas will have more races to be announced at a later date.
